Hesitancy and Fear

— LRicci at 5:28 pm on Monday, October 11, 2004

“As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” – Marianne Williamson (often incorrectly credited to Nelson Mandela)

I’ve noticed in my work this year the result of fear bringing hesitancy. Like moving in quicksand, the more action I try to put forth, the more bogged down I get. Sometimes the fear is of venturing into an area of uncertainty. Sometimes the fear is of dealing with a client I don’t quite understand and my stuggle to sychronize with them.

Once the fear is released, the answers and next steps become obvious and graceful. Praise and gratitude become easier to offer. Love becomes the present. I understand.

Once that flow begins, others get an ease about taking action.

In one case, I’m moving a client into a new area and their staff were taken by surprise. At first they objected to taking on different tasks, and were quick to kick back action items to me at the slightest impediment. Then something happened and they were more comfortable taking action that could improve the results. After a couple of kick backs and interventions on my part, a bounced email was returned to me with a sense of blame. Then I gave the explanation that I likely mistyped the address and a quick phone call should correct the situation. This time the response was more liberated, realizing that we are working on this together for their benefit.

It is a pleasure when I can trade liberation between us. One time my client reduces my fear, the next time I reduce theirs and we both are liberated. That’s been the case with another client, and the progress they are making is starting to become obvious and valuable.

Enlightenment at work.
(Enlightenment alive and becoming obvious) OR
(Enlightenment in the workplace) OR
(No do. No try. Just be.)
