There are a couple of tricks every good proposal writer has up his or her sleeve that are bound to get the audience up and out of their seats. If you look close enough, every competitive bidder has their share of ghosts and goblins. The magic comes with knowing how to deal with them. Ghost Stories and Goblin Tales (sometimes called trade studies) can be about anything that is relevant to the proposal. They are very useful tools because they nudge the reader's thinking in your direction. Without directly talking about your competition, you score points over them. You've promoted your experience and know-how, and you may have raised questions that your competitors may not even have the opportunity to answer.
