4 steps to Designing Winning Marketing Systems, a Sales Necessity | Process | Staffing | Databases | Change | Process What do you need? One firm of 700 needed, used, and won business with a system including 12 processes, another firm of 2200 needed six processes. (c)2005 Laura Ricci What can be automated? One firm automated their project summary update ticklers for 2200 people around the world What can be delegated to outsiders? A development company had several steps in their existing system which their Title Company could do instantly for them, but had never been asked. What can be delegated to junior staff? We showed a newspaper how to reorganize a section from 1.75 editors to one editor and .5 proofreaders, and the workload was lighter for the editor. | Process | Staffing | Databases | Change | Staffing Trying to find "Superman" is impossible, and often leads to hiring the wrong people. Before hiring, we help you evaluate the skills required. Current staff are surveyed for capabilities you may already have. Then I’ll help you develop a job description you can afford and find in the marketplace. We help you avoid hiring too many, or re-staffing and retraining every six months because you hire too few. How large a staff do you need? For growing firms, you’ll avoid wasting money by knowing how many people you need for your marketing program. | Process | Staffing | Databases | Change | Databases We know the tools and can help you evaluate the best fit for your organization. There are lots of software tools available to manage Marketing Systems. They are pricey. The majority were designed for marketing management but not by marketing managers. The hidden cost of proprietary software must be factored into your design. Building your system on common software, lowers your staffing costs. In one case, I found that operators, using one proprietary software, commanded premiums of $10,000 per year. I knew my client would be more competitive by avoiding proprietary software and designing systems to be staffed by personnel readily available. Documentation of your systems is important and we make sure all systems are documented. This allows you to cross-train inexpensively and avoids bottlenecks caused when the sole operator of a system is out sick or leaves. (c)2005 Laura Ricci I was called in by a firm held hostage when the sole operator of an undocumented system left to join the competition. The firm was forced to NO BID two upcoming projects because they could not find their data and respond by deadline. More about databases... | Process | Staffing | Databases | Change | Change Everyone says they want change, but not everyone needs or can manage it. If your firm needs a brand new marketing system, what must happen so the system doesn’t collapse later or suffer from neglect? I watched seven firms hire the same consultant to train their entire staff on a new marketing system. The firm with whom I worked was the only one to implement these changes. The other firms are now on a treadmill of hiring new consultants every few years to retrain their staff. Every organization has members unconvinced they need to change. If management is committed to making some changes, I’ll help build your campaign to convince the reluctant and administer change. Services are available on an hourly consulting basis and I frequently remain on retainer for some period of time.
