Telework Management How do you "Work Together Apart"? In the transition from "site" to "virtual" management, new issues and skills emerge. How do we make the technology work FOR US, instead of working to overcome the technology?
The transition from site to virtual management is like learning to ride a bike. At first the techniques are disquieting, then, the elements are mastered, and finally, the process fades into the background, "Oh yeah, I guess I forgot I was on a bike." Laura Ricci began experimenting with long distance communication in 1991 when time-sensitive projects required multi-office team management and voicemail was the best available asynchronous tool. For an international firm, Laura both developed protocols for long distance project management and identified prospects for retraining from site to virtual management. The team she created performs globally and shares work, passing tasks from one time zone to another, with 3 shifts of work on each task, each 24 hour period. She works with organizations including Johnson Wax Professional, and The Gas Technology Institute to identify, train and coach managers working with virtual teams.
